AYURVEDIC BASE OIL

Sesame Oil

Sesame Oil, the classical Til Taila of Ayurveda, a single-ingredient cold-pressed seed oil for massage and skin care.

Sesame Oil is the foundational base oil of Ayurveda, known in the tradition as Til Taila. Art of Vedas offers it as a single ingredient, cold-pressed from sesame seed, with nothing added. This page sets out what the oil is, the classical tradition it belongs to, our quality commitment, and the full ingredient detail.

What Sesame Oil is

Sesame Oil is a single-ingredient base oil, pressed from the seed of Sesamum indicum. Art of Vedas offers it cold-pressed and unblended: one ingredient, with no added water, no fragrance and no preservative. It is vegan, made in India, and not tested on animals. It carries a period after opening of 12 months and is offered in 500 ml, 1 litre and 5 litre sizes.

In Ayurveda, sesame oil is the classical carrier oil, valued as a base for massage and for daily skin care. It has a characteristic mild, nutty aroma that is natural to the seed. Because it is a single, anhydrous oil, the ingredient list is simple, and it is given in full further down this page.

Sesame Oil in classical Ayurveda

Sesame oil, Til Taila, is the most widely used base oil in the classical Ayurvedic tradition. It is the oil into which many classical herbal preparations are cooked, and it is used on its own as a massage and skin-care oil.

In the tradition the oil is warmed gently and worked into the skin with massage, in the practice known as Abhyanga. Art of Vedas offers the plain oil within that classical frame, describing the practice rather than any outcome.

It is presented as a vegan, single-ingredient oil, kept faithful to the tradition and checked for quality before release.

Quality and testing

Our quality commitment

Sesame Oil is a new addition to the Art of Vedas range. Rather than publish figures we have not yet recorded, we set out here the standard every batch is held to before it is released for sale.

What we check before release

  • A single ingredient: cold-pressed sesame seed oil, with nothing blended in, no added water, no fragrance and no preservative.
  • Every production batch is checked for heavy metals and for microbiological safety against the applicable EU cosmetic limits before it is released for sale.
  • The oil is assessed for freshness, with checks appropriate to a plant oil carried out as part of batch release.

Further assurances

  • Vegan: a single plant-derived oil, with no animal-derived material.
  • An anhydrous, water-free oil, so it needs no added preservative.
  • Made in India; not tested on animals.

Full ingredients

Sesame Oil is a single ingredient. The complete INCI is:
